How We Write and Review Our Practice Questions
You’re trusting us to help you pass an exam that matters. So here is exactly how our practice questions get made, who checks them, and how we keep them current.
1. Every question starts with the real exam outline
Each exam publishes an outline of what it tests. For the CNA written exam, that’s the content outline used by Credentia (NNAAP), Prometric and Headmaster. For nursing school entrance exams and the NCLEX, it’s the official HESI A2, ATI TEAS 7 and NCLEX test plans.
We map every question to one of those topic areas. Our full-length practice tests follow the same topic mix as the real exam, so you aren’t over-practicing one area and skipping another.
2. A nurse educator reviews the content
Our Lead Medical Reviewer is Michele J. McCarthy, RN, MSN, CNE. She’s a registered nurse and Certified Nurse Educator with 30 years of combined clinical and nursing education experience, and she has prepared CNA, LPN and RN candidates for state and national certification exams.
Before a question set goes live with her name on it, Michele checks that:
- the correct answer is right, and it’s the single best answer;
- the question reflects current care standards and the role you’ll actually have (a CNA question stays inside CNA scope of practice);
- the wrong answers are believable but clearly wrong;
- the explanation teaches why, not just what.
A “Medically reviewed by” byline on a practice test means she has reviewed the questions on that test. We don’t put her name on a page she hasn’t reviewed.
3. We check every set before it goes live
Before a practice test is published or refreshed, we run checks for typos, duplicate questions, unbalanced answer keys (too many “C” answers, for example) and topic coverage. We use software for some of these checks, including AI tools that flag possible problems. A person makes every decision about what changes.
4. We refresh our free practice tests every month
Our main free practice tests get a monthly refresh: we swap in new questions and retire ones that have been fixed or replaced. The “Updated” date at the top of each test shows when it was last refreshed.
5. The sources we rely on
- Official candidate handbooks and content outlines from the testing companies (Credentia, Prometric, Headmaster, ATI, Elsevier/HESI and NCSBN)
- Federal nurse aide training and competency rules (42 CFR 483.152 and 483.156)
- CDC guidance on infection control and hand hygiene
- Current nursing references and textbooks
6. What our practice tests are not
Our questions are written to match the style and content of the real exam. They are not actual exam questions, and we never use leaked or recalled test items. Exam formats, lengths and passing scores vary by state and testing company, so your state’s candidate handbook is always the final word.
7. Found a mistake? Tell us
If a question or explanation looks wrong to you, contact us and tell us which test and question. We read every report. Clinical corrections go to Michele, and we fix confirmed errors in the next update or sooner.
